Coachmark Clubs - delivered into Primary Schools

Coachmark Clubs are before-school or after-school clubs held at school. Children pay to attend a course of clubs, although some clubs may be subsidised by school or other funding. The clubs will take place weekly on a regular basis throughout the term. Where appropriate, groups will be split depending on age and ability. The clubs are completely inclusive irrelevant of age, ability or gender. Every child in the school is most welcome (at the discretion of the teachers).

The children will receive coaching on key areas such as, evasive running, passing, decision-making, unloading, support-running and defending.

"Thank you for giving confidence to a child who never perceived herself as sporty. I think this experience will make a huge difference".

Mrs Fumi, Parent

Coaching Children

1. Children will at all times receive quality sports coaching in a safe, secure and enjoyable environment.

2. Coaches will be enthusiastic and positive giving feedback in a constructive and encouraging manner.

3. Children will be encouraged to play fairly within the laws and in a spirit of co-operation.

4. Children will be allowed to take rest and appropriate refreshment, particularly during long activity sessions.

5. Coaches will never use emotional or physical punishment to discipline participants.

6. Children will be supervised at all times from arrival at the site through to their departure. Where supervision is not possible e.g. in the changing rooms, clear instructions/codes of behaviour will be provided.

7. Group size and gender mix will vary according to a number of factors including the type of sport, age of participants, size or quality of facility and the qualifications and status of coaches. The following points should be considered:
• National Governing Bodies (NGB) give guidelines on activities for mixed gender and those which should be single sex. In some cases, for example contact sports, this may change when a certain age is reached and again the NGB will advise. Sport England produces a list of all NGB contacts, updated on a regular basis. All managers should retain a copy for information;
• NGB specify ideal ratios of coaches to students. These should always be adhered to.
