Newsletter No. 07
Friday 19th October 2007

Dear Parents, Carers and Governors,

Parent Governors
Following the count of ballot forms by our Clerk to Governors, Mrs Sally Poole, I am pleased to announce that the successful candidates were Katie Sabberton-Coe and Julie Gil. I would like to thank all three candidates for putting themselves forward for this important role.
Please find attached to this newsletter a full list of our Governing Body, including Mrs Jane Clark, Teaching Assistant in Blue Class, who I?m delighted to announce has just been elected as a staff governor.

Year 2 Parents' Open Evening
The Junior School will be holding an Open Evening for Year 2 parents on Monday 3rd December 2007 from 7.00 to 8.30 pm in the Junior school hall.
Mrs Montie will be sending out a letter after half term.

School Applications for Academic Year 2008/09
If your child is to start school or move to the Junior School next academic year, you will need to complete an application form and make sure it is with the Local Authority by Friday 25th January. Wokingham Local Authority handles all admissions centrally now. Forms will be distributed to parents in November. If you have not received a form by mid-December, then contact the admissions department on 0118 974 6000 (ask for Primary Admissions) or look on the website at http://www.wokingham.gov.uk
You can also complete the forms on-line from 1st December.
We will accept forms here at the school until Friday 18th January.

After School Club
You should have received a letter regarding amended opening hours for the After School Club following the half term break. Please remember that under 8s attending the club will need to be collected no later than 5.30 pm, for those aged 8 and over the club will remain open until 6 pm.

School Photographs
Please can you return your completed order forms together with any payment in the envelope provided by 9.00am Deadline Friday 2nd November.

Sewing Volunteers
We had a fantastic response for volunteer sewers, Jane would like to thank everyone who offered to help.

3R
I have heard from a couple of parents who were unhappy with the style of the letter from 3R. I do apologise if anyone found their style rather pushy, I had not realised that the company would be requesting details even if you weren't interested. We will not be returning your details if you have indicated that you're not interested - please do let us know if you would still like us to pass these details on for you.
I have passed on these concerns to the company and the fact that there was no indication of the costs involved.
The main reason we allowed these letters to go home was that some parents had expressed an interest in supporting their child at home with maths and had asked for a recommendation. We've looked at 3R's pack and think it would support children's learning, so felt happy to pass it on for your consideration.

Parking
Please can we remind you not to park on the yellow lines outside the entrance to the school, we have received concerns regarding parking in this area, especially regarding parents blocking driveways. Waitrose are more than happy for us to use their car park if you need to drive your child/children to school.

Pots with lids?
Do you have any small pots with lids at home that we could use in school? Hair gel or moisturiser pots are about the right size. These are great for keeping glue in without it going hard, so they'd be really useful - thank you!

PTA News
We are looking forward to our next event this term - the Christmas Craft and shopping evening on Friday 9th November from 7-10pm. You should have received a green letter this week in your child's book bag with all the details; please return the booking slip as soon as possible to avoid disappointment!

Please remember the parent volunteer days too, on Friday 2nd November and Saturday 3rd November. Many hands make light work, so please come for as long or as short as you can manage.

On another note, our next meeting is on Wednesday November 14th in the school hall at 8pm. This meeting is for anyone who is interested in helping out with the PTA, or who has ideas we could use, especially with the Christmas fair fast approaching! The start of this meeting will be called a Special General Meeting so that we can look at some minor changes to the PTA constitution. More details can be found on the PTA page of our website. We hope to see you there.

Local Weather Forecast

Have a great Half Term,
