Newsletter No. 06
Friday 12th October 2007

Dear Parents, Carers and Governors,

Harvest Celebration and Donations.
Well done to all our girls and boys for your great Harvest Celebration today. The fruit and vegetable animals were fantastic this year - children (and parents!), you excelled yourselves!
Thank you for all the donations; the children were delighted as we had to add the numbers of tables to hold all the donations as the week went by. I believe the church had over 1,000 tins at last week's service, so our collection will really boost their final total.

Parent Governor
We are currently holding an election for the 2 posts of parent governor. Please return your voting form in an envelope marked "parent governor" by Tuesday 16th October at 3.30pm. Thank you

Parents Evening
You should have all received your times from teachers now. If you have not yet made an appointment, please see your child's class teacher as soon as possible. This is an excellent opportunity to discuss your child's progress. Thank you.

Tag Rugby
Tag Rugby still has under 10 children attending at the moment, however the children who attended enjoyed themselves so much that Coach mark have confirmed that they are happy to continue on Tuesday mornings 8.00 - 8.50am even though they have only 7 children. If you would like your child/children to join in please contact Coachmark directly to book a place on 01628 820251 or on-line at www.coachmark.co.uk

Suggestion Box
Just a reminder that we still have our suggestion box in place. It sits outside the office and is painted a beautiful orange-yellow colour. This is a great way to be in touch with the school if you haven't got time for a chat. It's another way for children to suggest ideas if they'd like to write it down. School council checks the box and discusses how to work on the suggestions. Miss Perkins takes any of more complex issues to a staff meeting for consideration.

Individual Photos
We're all looking forward to having our photos taken next Thursday, so make sure you look extra smart that day.

PTA Children?s Disco
I look forward to seeing lots of you at tonight's disco!
Please make sure you enter the school through the door by the office and leave by the door off the hall, when you leave and collect. Please make sure you sign your child in and out with a member of the PTA team, so they know who they have.

Thanks to the PTA
I am so pleased with the work the PTA paid for in our "Wild area". We now have a much more manageable area for the children to work in, as the ground had a significant amount of rubble in it and soil was of a quite poor quality. So look out for some exciting work in that area.

Half Term Events
The Old Shire Horse Centre is holding "Spooktacular Halloween Events" starting this weekend Saturday 13th October. Please see leaflet in your children's book bag or come into the office to pick one up.

Playscheme and Sports Activities
During the half term Wokingham Borough Council will be running a Playscheme at Robert Piggott Junior School as well as various sport activities in the Wokingham area. If you would like further information please come into the office to pick up a leaflet.

Twyford Bonfire Carnival
Twyford Firework Bonfire Carnival will take place this year on Saturday 27th October at King George's Field. The Round Table have very kindly given us complementary tickets for every child in the school, this also includes a box for them to draw their own picture which can then be entered into the Round Table's Drawing Competition. If more space is needed then entries will be accepted on the reverse of the ticket. The winner will be given a prize and their school will receive a donation. Completed entries should be handed in at the collection point on the night for judging - Good Luck!

Volunteers Days - Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd November
We're looking forward to having a good tidy up around the school grounds on these 2 days.
We'd like a rough idea of numbers, so if you could complete the slip then we can arrangement teas and coffees. However don't let this put you off if you suddenly have time to come!
If you would like to book a school dinner for the Friday, do complete the slip at the bottom of this newsletter.

Sewing Volunteers Needed!
We need volunteer sewers to make up letter bags for the children to use in school. These are all cut out and just need to be stitched together, so you don't have to be a brilliant at sewing! A sample can be viewed in the office .

After School Club
As many of you know, Hilary Priest, Supervisor of the Polehampton After School Club (PASC), will be going on maternity leave at half term. Hilary has been involved with the club from the beginning and will be sorely missed by children, parents and staff alike. I'm sure many of you would like to join me in expressing thanks to her for her dedication and care over the years. A collection for Hilary is being made and any parents wishing to contribute should send donations to the school office in an envelope marked 'ASC Collection' by Monday 15 October.

At the time of writing we are still looking for a Supervisor for the Club to cover Hilary's maternity leave. The vacancy has been posted on Wokingham District Council's website and various people have been approached in connection with the role but to date no suitably qualified applicants have come forward. If you know of anyone who may be interested in this role (Monday-Friday, 3.15-6.15 pm, term time only) please ring Hilary on the ASC mobile 07986 554042 or alternatively contact the school office during school hours.
