Newsletter No. 05
Friday 5th October 2007

Dear Parents, Carers and Governors,

Harvest Celebration and Collection.
We will be holding our own Harvest celebration in school next Friday 12th October at 9.15am to which everyone is invited. (Please note we cannot have buggies in the school, as it is a fire risk). An important part of this is our display of fruit and vegetable animals. This is an activity for children to do at home and bring in their creations for the Friday morning. If you would like some inspiration, there are some photos of last year's animals in the office.
Part of our work as a church school is to support charities, as it teaches the children the importance of supporting others. We are pleased to be involved with 2 charities this Harvest time.
The local charity, "Feed the Children", are collecting toiletries to send to help children in countries such as Sri Lanka and Malawi. They would appreciate donations of soap and shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrushes, hairbrushes and combs, flannels and nailbrushes. Their web-site is www.feedthechildren.org.uk if you'd like more information on their work.
We are also helping our local St. Mary's Church with their collection for a Reading based charity called "Faith" which supports homeless people in Reading. They would appreciate donations of tinned foods or packets of dried foods. Their challenge this year is to reach a total of 1,500 items - we'll let you know how it goes!
Take a look at their web-site for more information about this and all their other great work in the community and beyond. If we could have all donations by next Friday, that would be super.

Open Days
It was great to see so many parents and grandparents at our recent Open days. We hope you found it interesting to see what happens on a typical school day. Maybe you felt tempted to become a volunteer in school? Do speak to your child's class teacher if you do have some time, particularly the first half hour in the mornings when we do reading activities.

Curriculum Enrichment Contributions
Many thanks to everyone who has made this donation to school fund already. We would welcome any outstanding contributions, £10.00 for the whole year or £3.50 for the term - please send them into the office in a named envelope.

Tag Rugby
The children who came to last week's tag rugby had a great time. However, we need more children if Coach Mark are to continue the club, as their minimum is 10 children.
Please contact Coach Mark directly if you'd like to book a place on 01628 820251 or on-line at www.coachmark.co.uk
The class will definitely run next week, but will have to stop if we don't get 10 children.

Twyford Advertiser
We are looking very smart with our new School Councillors on the front page and our new Blue class inside.

The Food Standards Agency
The Food Standards Agency has updated a useful visual of the Healthy Eating Plate model. Whilst it's useful for all children, Year Two are looking at healthy eating at the moment, so it would be good to refer to at home.

Holidays in Term Time.
Please find attached a letter from Wendy Woodcock Corporate Head of Children's Services outlining Wokinghams Policy on holidays taken during term time.

School Photographs
Just a reminder that the photographer is coming into school on Thursday 18th October to take individual photos. If you would like a picture taken with a sibling who is at the Junior School you can book a 5 minute slot from 8.00 -8.30am, please come into the school office to put your name on the list and to check availability.

PTA News
Thank you to the family who have offered to help with ebay sales to raise money for the PTA - it is much appreciated. If anyone else wants to donate money they raise through ebay to the PTA, please contact Claire Lawrence (Green class) on how ebay enables donations to charities such as ours.

Our main focus this coming week is the first disco of the school year on Friday October 12th. You should have received a letter and form about this on Wednesday. Remember - ticket requests need to be in by Monday 8th and we often get over subscribed! If you have any questions please contact one of the PTA team.

PTA Cake Sale - Year Two has started us off with a fantastic £89.15. Thanks to all who donated and helped to organise. The money goes to the Year Two classes and we'll let you know what it is spent on.

The minutes of our meetings will always be available on the school's web-site. Please do contact the school if you would like these directly emailed to you and your details will be forwarded to the PTA secretary.

Parent Evenings
Shortly, we will be holding our termly parents evenings with our usual 2 session. Attached to today's newsletter, you will find the slips for you to return to school, indicating which slot you'd prefer. Then the teachers will send home your allocated time. I hope after our parent meetings and open days that you will feel more informed about school life. Please take this opportunity to ask any questions you have about these sessions or anything about your child's progress in school.

Local Weather Forecast
Sunny intervals all weekend!
