Newsletter No. 03

Dear Parents, Carers and Governors,
Parent Meeting
We were delighted with the number of parents who were able to come to our curriculum meetings over the past couple of weeks. We do hope they were useful. We've sent home the handouts to parents who weren't able to come - please do come and ask any questions if you have any.
I've attached the link to the phoneme articulation again, as I don't think we handed it out to Blue class parents.

Correct Articulation of Letter Sounds
It is really important that the children learn to articulate the letter sounds correctly. It not only helps them to read unfamiliar words, but also helps them to sound out when trying to spell.

If you would like to listen to the correct articulation of letter sounds (phonemes) go to the following link.

http://www.standards.dfes.gov.uk/local/clld/las.html

Click on Phase Two tab at the top of the page
Click on "Articulation of Phonemes", high or low, on the right hand side of the page.

School Council News
The beginning of a new school year is an exciting opportunity to set up a new group of children to sit on the School Council. Elections have been held in classes and children have had the chance to vote for their choice of councillors to represent them. The School Council will be involved with decision making about important issues at school; they will be responsible for considering the views of all children and keeping them informed about decisions that are made. Below are the names of our new school councillors - congratulations to them all! I am very much looking forward to working with the School Council this year. We will keep you updated, through the newsletter, about what we get up to!

Judo
This club was a bit short on numbers last term in it's Monday morning slot, so Dave Edmonds want to do a quick survey on who might be interested in the club and when. We hope to start the club again after half term.

Any allergies, medicines or medical needs?
We're checking through our medical lists at the moment, so the office staff or I may need to chat to a few parents to clarify your child's current needs. Also if your child develops any allergies or if their allergies change or stop, please could you put it in writing for our records. If we hold medicines in school for your child (i.e.asthma pumps), please come in regularly and check the expiry date or if we need a top up -thank you.

PTA meeting
The venue for next Wednesday's meeting is the school hall, so we all easily fit!

Lost Scooter
A scooter has been left by the bicycle racks but was not chained up, this has been brought into the school office for safe keeping. If this belongs to you please could you collect it.
Also, a medal for "The Big Wild Read" has been found in the playground, if this is yours please collect from the office.

Open Day for Years One and Two
On Monday 1st October, we will be holding an Open Day for parents of children in Years one and two. This is in response to a suggestion from our parent questionnaires last term, so thanks for the idea!
The times are 9.15-10.15am and 2.00-3.00pm. The idea is for parents to pop in and see what happens on a typical school day.
You do not have to come for the start or stay for the whole session. In fact you might want to visit a couple of classes or all four.
I'm afraid we can't accommodate younger children at this event, as it is our regular teaching time and we would be too over-crowded.

Local Weather Forecast
As usual, a mixture of sunshine and showers on Sunday!

Have a great weekend,
