20 Jul 2007 - Good bye for the summer!

Dear Parents, Carers and Governors,
Year Two Leavers Presentation
We all felt very proud of our Year Two children this week as they led us down memory lane, remembering all the different parts of school life. Thanks to the PTA for paying for their Polehampton Bears, the gift given on behalf of the school for the children to cherish. Mrs Hagley sent her best wishes and was sorry she couldn't make it to say goodbye and good luck in person.
Church Visit
We enjoyed our visit to the church on Tuesday. Revd. Simon encouraged us to have trust in the 3Fs - faith, friends and the future as we move on in life ¡V a great message, as we all plan for our new classes in September. We have a photo on the web site of our oldest and youngest pupils with the candle.
Healthy Schools
We are delighted to let you know that we have been awarded the Healthy Schools Achievement Award and will now be registered nationally as a Healthy School! We are grateful to everyone who worked to achieve this important certification and especially to Miss Perkins who led the initiative.
On Tuesday this week, two of our Yr1 school councillors, Tomi Amole and Tegan Aplin accompanied myself and Miss Perkins to a special presentation to receive our plaque and certificate. Tomi and Tegan (the youngest children there) did an excellent presentation about the changes we¡'ve made to lunchtimes and enjoyed listening to the impact of Healthy Schools in other schools. Check our web site for a photo of us with Cllr Annette Drake, Mayor of Wokingham.

Sports Day - 3rd time lucky!
Well we got there in the end! Apologies for the "can we/can't we" of the last week.
I hear that the Year One country dancing was a treat, so well done to them! And the staff race, some terrible behaviour, I hear - what an example! ?
Parent and Pupil Questionnaires
This term, we have asked for opinions from our Foundation Stage and Yr2 class parents, as we felt that these were obvious points to survey ideas.
We also asked our yr2 children formally and all the children through discussion and debate.
We have found all the ideas very useful indeed and were thrilled with the overwhelmingly positive responses.
The staff, governors and children will debate the suggested issues further and plan how we can make improvements to what we do. Please pass on any PTA ideas to the committee (or come along and join) as they are always keen to have support and suggestions.
If you have any suggestions about others ways to gather info, or if we should include Yr1 parents as well (we were trying to avoid questionnaire over-load!), please let us know.
Balloon Race
We received many returns for the balloon race, the furthest ones going as far as Norfolk! The winning ticket was from Samuel Haynes in Red Class (which travelled over 120 miles) so congratulations to the Haynes family! The map is on display in Green class window if you¡¦d like to see where they ended up.
Green Class Entrance - September 07
From the start of next term, we would like Green class children to come into school from the door to their class off the playground, rather than through the door by the office.
One point which came up from our end of Foundation Stage Questionnaire is how crowded it gets outside Blue, Red and Green classes - and we agree! So let's try this out and see if it makes a difference.
Lost Key
A house key has been handed into the office, if you think this may be yours please pop in to collect.
We also have an overflowing lost property box, which would be nice if we could empty before we start a new school year.
Goodbye and Good Luck
Four members of staff are sadly leaving us today. Mrs Booth has been one of our teaching assistants for nearly two years now and we have really benefited from her enthusiasm and efficiency. Mrs English stepped in at the last minute to take Red Class and has done a brilliant job of being their first school teacher. Mrs Wrobel has been a great teaching assistant in Year two since Christmas and has made real difference to their attainment. And Mrs Potter has been super at lunchtimes this term as we've grown in size with our Red class children.
Thank you to them for their contribution to the school and all the very best for the future!
Thank you!
I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has been involved in Polehampton CE Infant School this academic year. The staff and governors have worked tirelessly to ensure that every child gets the best education possible. We have received so much support from the PTA and all the parent volunteers who regularly come into school and give their time freely to organise, fund raise and improve the quality of provision at school. Thank you to all the parents who have supported the school to ensure that children are in the best possible place to learn and behave at school. Thank you for all your kind words, cards and presents we have received this week - very much appreciated!
And to the children - you have worked very hard this year and I am very proud of what you have achieved. Year Twos - good luck at the Junior School, I'm sure you'll do very well. Everyone else - I look forward to seeing you back on Tuesday 4th September.
Happy Holidays!
We do hope you all have safe and happy holidays.

Building Works at the Junior School.
This is to let you know that there will be a bit of disruption to normal routines as we are undertaking a big building project over the summer holiday. We are extending our reception area onto the patio so that we can have a proper entrance with easier access for people with disabilities and a double entry system to improve security.
The works are likely to continue into September, so there may well be some "disruption to normal service!" I do apologise in advance if things are not quite as organised as they might be at the beginning of next term. We may also have to use the entrance into the Year 3 wing as our main entrance for a while. I'm sure it will all be worth it in the long run!
