Newsletter No. 32
Friday 18th May 2007

Dear Parents, Carers and Governors,

Closure of the School
Just to up-date you on this issue. I am very pleased with how smoothly everything went this week - I do apologise for any inconvenience it may have caused you. After a situation like this, the Local Authority always puts in place a management plan. For us this means that we will be more regularly tested for at least the next six months and it's likely that they will run the sanitization again during this period as a further precautionary measure. If there is any more information we will pass it onto you as we get it.
For future reference, we always put any announcement on our web-site straight away, so it's a good place to check for regular information. I know quite a few parents did check it and I hope you found it useful.

Christian Aid week
Thank you for all the donations we've had so far collecting money for trees to be planted in Senegal. Please send in any outstanding donations next week - thank you.
Their web-site has lots of information, so do take a look at the work they do.

Tree Blessing - Thursday 24th May at 10.15am
(Please note change of date)
Our new tree looks super - hasn't it been fantastic weather for settling it in? Lots of people have wanted to know what it is - our final decision was to get a maple, native to the UK. Its full name is acer campestre 'Queen Elizabeth'.

Walk to School Week - You may have already noticed the posters around school about "Walk to School Week" next week. This is a national initiative to encourage children to keep healthy and think about what they can do to help look after the environment. We will be talking to the children about this in school next week and children who have walked to school will receive a special sticker and bookmark. Thank you for supporting us in developing good habits for your children's future. If you live too far away to walk then why not park in Waitrose car park and walk the rest of the way?

Parking on Hermitage Drive
Please can I ask that if you do drive to school, please avoid parking at or near the entrance to the school on Hermitage Drive as it makes crossing the road very hazardous, especially for our younger, shorter children. I have spoken to the council about extending the yellow lines so our entrance is a no parking zone, but this seems to be a long and complicated procedure. In the meantime, if you could take this measure yourself, that would make things much safer - thank you!

Non-uniform Day for fundraising!
As most things these days seem to be costing more and more, we have decided to follow suit with our Junior School and have occasional non-uniform days, which raise money for activities and resources in school. So next Friday, we are holding a Non-Uniform day and we'd appreciate a donation of £1 per child. This will go towards our annual African dance workshop run by Thabani, who has visited us for the last three years.

Orange Class Assembly - now on Wednesday 23rd May at 10.15am
Orange class are looking forward to sharing their assembly with you on Wednesday next week.
Or they can draw more flowers if you'd like to give more. Return the money and drawings to school and we'll let you know our grand total - Thank you!

Your child will be bringing home this term's curriculum sheet today. Do take a look to see what we're up to alongside all the core skills or literacy and numeracy.
