Dear Parents, Carers and Governors,

Christian Aid Week "Plant a Tree"!!!
To mark the 50th anniversary of Christian Aid Week, Christian Aid is encouraging us to plant trees here in the UK and to help support the planting of trees abroad.
So, just as we are thinking about planting a new tree for our school grounds, we have joined with Christian Aid to raise money for trees to be planted in Senegal.
Just 65p buys a sapling that will grow and bring fruit for a family to eat or sell. The children will bring home a picture on Monday where they can colour flowers depending how much they donate, i.e. 1 flower = 65p, 2 flowers = £1.30, 3 flowers = £1.95, etc...
Or they can draw more flowers if you'd like to give more. Return the money and drawings to school and we'll let you know our grand total - Thank you!

The Staff are doing "Race for Life"
On Wednesday 11th July, 11 of the staff are taking part in a "Race for Life" which raises money for Cancer Research. If you would like to sponsor us as a group, either pop into the office to sign the group form or go to the link on our School web-site where you can donate immediately and get further details - many thanks! http://www.polehamptoninfant.ik.org/

Headlice Workshop - Thursday 17th May at 2.45pm
Are you fed up with your child having little "visitors" in their hair? Our school nurse, Penny Pierce is running a workshop for us to see if we can all work together to solve this problem. She has lots of experience and good tips for parents, which she will share in a friendly and non-judgmental way.

Red Class to go full time
Next week, our Red Class will be here all day! As with all other teachers, Mrs English will have ½ day a week out of class for Planning, Preparation and Assessment (we call it PPA time). This will mostly be covered by our Deputy Headteacher, Miss Perkins and will usually be on a Wednesday morning. Miss Perkins has spent some time with Red Class this week, getting to know all their names and their routines.

Lost Keys
Keys have been handed in to the Office. If you think they belong to you, please see Mrs Martin.

Book Fair - Last chance on Monday after school!
We are so impressed with the quality of books on offer at this year's book fair! We seem to be on-track to get the maximum commission. If we sell over £550 worth of books, we get 60% commission, which means lots more reading books in school!

Reports Sent Home on Monday
We will be sending home the Annual Report to parents next Monday for all children except Red Class and those children who have joined us very recently. They will come home at the end of term.
We hope you find these reports very informative - I know the teachers have found them very useful to really focus on current achievement and plan targets for the rest of this term. Open Evening for parents to look at work is at the end of term - 4th July - so do make an appointment to see your child?s class teacher if there is anything you would like to discuss before then, either from the report or any issues in general.

I thought I would include a couple of definitions for you this year, as I know the teachers have used "school speak" a few times in the reports. Do let me know if there are others, so we can make the reports as parent friendly as possible!
CVC words Consonant - vowel consonant i.e. c-a-t z-i-p
when children know individual sounds, they can start to word-build
Smart notebook This is the software we use on the inter-active whiteboards (smartboards) - great to support all areas of the curriculum
Small world play Small toys such as farmyard animals, which the children use to play imaginative games

Local Weather
Rain!

Best wishes

Helen Ball
Headteacher
