Newsletter No. 30
Friday 4th May 2007

Dear Parents, Carers and Governors,

Our School Song
We have thoroughly enjoyed starting to learn our new school song this week. It's called "We're Polehampton Infants"!! You'll be hearing it at school events in the near future and no doubt singing along! A huge thank you to Mrs Smitheyman for writing this for us - we are very lucky here to have so many skills and so much commitment amongst our staff.

Open Morning for Red Class
Parent from Red Class are invited to spend part of the morning in class with your child next Thursday. This gives your child a chance to show you around the room and tell you what they get up to. If you can?t make it, we're more than happy to have an uncle or granny or friend instead.

Volunteers in School
We are always happy to have helpers in school. If you would like to come in to help, we need you to have a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. This is fairly straight forwards and free for volunteers. We also have a Polehampton Helpers Sheet, which gives you a few tips for working in class. Please pop to the office where you can read and sign this sheet and see Mrs Martin for details about the CRB check. Many Thanks.

Twyford Advertiser - Photos of the farm
There are some lovely photos of some of our Yellow Class children with the farm animals in this week's paper, so do take a look.

Breakfast Club Questionnaire
You will find a questionnaire attached to this week's newsletter. We are trying to find out if there would be enough interest in such a club. Please do complete whatever your opinions, "no"s are just as useful as "yes"s!

Tesco Vouchers
To celebrate the final week of this year's Computers for Schools, Tesco will be giving away double vouchers in all stores from 7th to 13th May. So for every £10 you spend between Monday 7th and Sunday 13th May, you'll receive two vouchers instead of the usual one - helping Polehampton Infants to boost our collection and benefit from even more computer equipment.

Book Fair Next Week
Our Book Fair starts next Tuesday 8th May at the following times:

Tuesday 8th - after school
Wednesday 9th - before and after school
Thursday 10th - after school
Friday 11th - before and after school
Monday 14th - after school

Please visit and have a look at the many books on offer. Any books purchased means commission for the school

School Council News
School Council met on Monday this week. We discussed the new seating arrangements at lunchtimes and everyone reported that they are working out really well. The children especially like the fact that they do not have to queue up to wait for their school dinner. School Council are very happy to continue with the arrangements as they are. Miss Ball also came to the meeting and talked to the children about the Christian Aid Week plant-a-tree campaign. Christian Aid is one of the charities that School Council has chosen to support and was very keen on this campaign as it fits in well with our plans to plant a new tree in the school grounds. There will be more news on this shortly. Finally, the School Councillors would like to remind everybody about the Suggestion Box in Reception if you have any ideas that you would like to put forward for us to discuss.

Reading Rockets Basketball Club
Invites young people ages 6-11 only to come and try basketball at the Loddon Valley Leisure Centre on Saturday 5th May at 12.00 - 3.00 pm. Meet stars from the EBL and get their autographs and watch them in action. Free goodie bags, big prize raffle and free coaching

Bike Racks
Please note, we can only let your child use the bike rack if you have completed a form available from the office. Please lock bikes so the wheel sits in the rack rather than lying besides the rack as this takes up too much space.

Your child will be bringing home this term's curriculum sheet today. Do take a look to see what we're up to alongside all the core skills or literacy and numeracy.
