Newsletter No. 20
Friday 9th February 2007

Dear Parents, Carers and Governors,

Emergency closure of school procedures
Well, wasn't yesterday fun!!!!
We made snow-men, and train tracks and generally had a fantastic time! Do look at the web-site on the class pages for a couple of snowy shots!!
http://www.polehamptoninfant.ik.org/
A few parents rang to check we were open in the morning. If we do ever close the school, we would contact both 2TenFM and BBC Berkshire and they would announce it for us. If there is snow again, we would only close if we couldn't safely staff the school, due to poor travelling conditions for the majority of staff. The only other reasons schools tend to close is if the heating is broken and it's very cold or if we had no water.

Website Demonstration
Thanks for the feedback on parents evening.
"Thank you for all the lovely comments, it was great to have such a positive reaction to the website. We hope it will continue to evolve to remain interesting and relevant so please continue to feed back your comments. Lots of people mentioned that they had told friends and family overseas about the photographs on the website so that they could have a look too - this is a wonderful idea. Don't forget those closer to home though, a surprising number of 'other halves' did not know about it!!!
Kind regards,
Kathy."

The return of "Bring your Mum or dad to Lunch" week - week beginning 12th March
After the success of our last venture, we would like to invite all our mums and dads in to try our school dinners again. We have 20 places each day for the week beginning 12th March. The cost will be £1.88 for each adult meal, £1.60 as usual for a child's meal. We need to book the adult meals in advance so Mrs Potter can order the correct stock. So please book meals by Friday 9th March at the latest. If you arrive at 12.00 and allow about ¾ hour, then you will have time so enjoy a meal and spent a bit of playtime with your child. Please fill in the slip below.

PTA Singalong on Monday!!!
There are still a few sponsors outstanding. Please may we ask that you bring in the money after half-term, thank you.

Yellow Class Assembly
Well-done Yellow Class for their fantastic story telling through puppets. It was very entertaining.

Sainsbury Active Kids vouchers
This great fundraising scheme started again this week, so don't forget to say "yes" if they offer you vouchers at the checkout and bring them into school. Last year, we collected over 4,000 vouchers. This bought some multi-skills equipment, eg, fitness ladder.

Markings on our roadway
The PTA have agreed to fund some road marking which will improve safety on site. During half term, we will be having markings put on our roadway on the Hermitage Drive side of the school. These will show quite clearly where cars should drive and where pedestrians should walk. This will be new to everyone, so please ensure that you help your children to learn the new procedures. Thank you.

The fallen tree
Just to keep you up-to-date... we are working very hard to remedy this situation, but as you can imagine, all the tree surgeons are extremely busy. I was hoping to do the work in half term, but this isn't going to be possible. I will let you know when we can complete the work as soon as I know.

Thanks to everyone who has started to bring in these tokens. We only have 33 at the moment and need over 200 to be entered in the draw. So please check you've cut out the token before you recycle them. Tell all your friends and family to collect for us too! Thank you!

Blue Class Cake Sale
Well done Blue Class who manage to raise a whopping £68.10 at their cake sale. We will let you know in the next Newsletter where the money will be spent. Thank you.

After School clubs
We have spaces for all our after school clubs, so do think about taking up a new hobby after the holidays. See Mrs Martin in the office for more details.
Mondays at 8am - Judo
Mondays from 3.20-4.20pm - French
Tuesdays from 3.20-4.20pm - Fit 'n' Funky
Wednesdays from 3.20-4.30pm - Reading FC football club
Thursdays from 3.20-4.20pm - Spanish

Polehampton Swimming Association
The Polehampton Swimming Association are looking for volunteers to help supervise sessions at the pool during the summer. There are strict conditions over supervision and without the appropriately trained supervisors, we will be unable to open the pool. At this stage, the P.S.A. are looking for parents/carers to take part in a FREE, 2 hour resuscitation course (probably an evening in early May) with a view to being able to help supervise on a regular or occasional basis. The training will be carried out by an approved first aid training provider and volunteers will obtain a 3 year certificate in emergency poolside resuscitation. Please note, additional helpers/spotters are always required to assist the supervisors at each session, so the more people who have this training, the easier it is to keep the pool open! If you would like to train to become a supervisor, please let Mrs Bowen at the Junior's school office know as soon as possible as we need to book the course with the training provider. Thank you for your support!
