Dear Parents, Carers and Governors,
Jeans for Genes Day
Didn't we all look different today in our jeans and denim?!
Thank you for your donations for this important charity. We made nearly £100.
Water Bottles
It has come to our attention, that some children are bringing in squashes in their water bottles. Please note, we can only allow water during the day in classrooms. Some of our children have an allergy to squashes and if they accidentally drink from the wrong bottle, it may cause a reaction. Thank you for your attention
Our Harvest Collection
The Twyford Advertiser has a feature this week about the collection we contributed to last week. Rev Simon was delighted that the village total was around 2,000 tins. Our total was a fantastic 129 tins, 2 jars, 24 packets of pulses, rice or pasta!!!
Reading in School and at Home
Last week, we had some fantastic staff training from reading expert, Dee Reid on "guided reading". This is one of the methods we use in school to develop children's reading. If any parent would like to see how this is done, to get some ideas for helping their own child or volunteering in school, do speak to your child's class teacher. We think the best way is to come in and watch the teachers at work so you can see the ideas in practice.
Also we were delighted that Dee was such a fan of our "home readers" system. She confirmed our thinking that it's good for these books to be at a "comfortable" level for the children, so they can build confidence and practice their skills at home. Books the children read at school are more challenging, so the teacher can extend their skills.
Do ask any questions about this or any other issue at our parents evening coming in a two weeks time.
Public Library User Survey - the library story continues....
Between 2 - 8 October 2006, you will be able to collect a questionnaire from the Twyford Library, which asks:
- What do you think of your library?
- Can you find what you?re looking for?
- How can we make your library even better?
Twyford Advertiser has piece about this in this week's paper too. So do pop along and take this chance to have your say!
Old Books & Magazines
We are having a good sort out in school at the moment. If you have any old books or magazines, which your child has finished with, do drop them into school, as we?re doing two things at the moment.
We're setting up magazine boxes in classes, thanks to the PTA funding a subscription to a brilliant magazine for each class. Also, we're passing on any older style books to the local charity "Feed the Children" who have links with schools in developing countries who will really appreciate them. Thank you!
Hunt & Nash Estate Agents
One of our local estate agents has a great offer for the school. Hunt & Nash are prepared to give £150 to our school, if our school & this promotion are mentioned by anyone who instructs Hunt & Nash to sell their property. This will be paid if they successfully sell the property and after they have received our payment from the vendor. They must also have been made aware that they are receiving instructions as part of the school promotion before you have formally instructed them to market their property.
Coats & Painting Shirts
Now it's getting a bit colder, can every child bring in a coat, please? Also, if you check your child has a painting shirt in school, then we can keep clean during art lesson. Many thanks!
Library Books
Thank you for returning reading books. We still have a few outstanding and would ask that remaining books be returned so other children can enjoy the stories.
