Friday 7th July 2006
Dear Parents, Carers and Governors,
We have decided to keep the current Year One classes exactly as they are. These classes have gelled very well and we don't think we can improve on the current working relationships that have been established. See below for staffing.
Sports Relief ' Keep on Running!!!
Due to the very hot weather, we decided to stagger the Sports Relief Run, rather than have everyone run on Tuesday, when the weather was very hot!!!
As the official run isn't until next Saturday, we will probably have some classes running next week if we all get too hot and bothered this week!!! The children who have run so far have been brilliant the staff really have something to live up to!
Socks are still available to buy even after the run has taken place, as every child is having a go all proceeds go to the Sport Relief charity.
The Piggott School Invite
The Piggott School have invited all parents and children to their school on Monday 10th July at 4pm to complete a mile around the field. There will be prizes for the best fancy dress, most creative way of doing the mile and also for the quickest child and quickest adult. There is a £2 donation fee which will go to Sport Relief and help children all over the world have a better life.
Sports Day, Monday 17th July @1.30pm - Weather warning!
This may be stating the obvious, but in light of the above, please bare in mind that we always monitor the weather for sports day. Whereas we usually worry about getting rained off, we will also consider moving this event if it is too hot! If it is a hot weather week, we will hold the event in a morning when it is cooler. If it rains, we'll take the next possible opportunity!
I am sorry if this does end up affecting arrangements for parents wanting to come and watch, but for Health and Safety reasons, I'm sure you'll appreciate we will need to be flexible. Fingers crossed we can go ahead as planned!
Open Evening 3.30-6.00pm
On Wednesday 12th July, we will be holding our Open Evening for parents. This will be an opportunity for parents to look at your child's work and chat to their teacher.
Red Class -We will ask you to sign for appointments, as this is your only parent's evening of the year. Notes will be coming home today for you to indicate a preferred time. You will receive your child's report on Tuesday next week.
All other classes - We will be operating a free flow system, so please feel free to come at some point during these times. If you would prefer to book a confidential meeting, please see your child's class teacher before Wednesday.
Before/After school Clubs
Next week will be the last Judo and French Club.
Fit "n" Fun and football will finish in the last week of term.
New Class Meetings
These meetings went very well this week. It was lovely for everyone to meet their new class teacher and for them to get to know their new children.
Green and Orange Class Assemblies
I had forgotten to congratulate Orange Class on their superb assembly the other week and now we have Green Class to congratulate too! Well done to all of you, and a particular thanks to Mrs Hagley, as this was her last class assembly.
Blue and Red Class Assembly
Due to popular demand!!!! We will now be having this assembly twice next week, so parents have 2 opportunities to come along - Tuesday and Wednesday at 10.15.
The PTA Summer Fair
This fantastic event raised a huge £1,587, with a few expenses to come out!!! Thank you to everyone who took part! I hope you enjoyed the gunging, it was a good way to cool down
The photos are in windows around the school if you missed it!
Completed Forms for Year Two Parents
Mrs Moffat has very kindly offered to take all completed forms to the Juniors. When you have completed your forms, please hand them to Mrs Martin, who will in turn hand them to Mrs Moffat.
Temporary Teaching Assistant Required Sept 06 - Jul 07
We are advertising the above vacancy in this week's Twyford Advertiser. 15 hours per week, 9.00 - 12.00 to support KS1 teacher at £7.66 per hour. Please see Mrs Martin for Job Spec and Application Form if you are interested. Closing date 13th July, interviews w/c 17th July.
The Beat Goes On?.
Come and be part of a nationwide world record attempt to have the largest simultaneous drumming event in the UK. Bring a drum, a saucepan, or anything that makes a sound when you hit it, to Wellington Square (between London Road and Waitrose) in the village on Saturday 8th July 11.30 rehearsals for a 12 noon record attempt.
Why is this happening? One year after the G8 summit took steps to "MAKE POVERTY HISTORY", trade justice campaigners are calling on the government to act on the promises they made there. In particular to give more help to poor countries so that they can trade fairly with rich countries and so work their way out of poverty. "The beat goes on" is happening all over the country and is a fun way of getting the government's attention. Our MP, Theresa May, will be there to witness the event, as will our local councillor, Stephen Conway.

Head Lice
Having spoken to several parents recently, I would like to alert everyone to the difficulties with Head Lice. We really need EVERY PARENT to check their child's hair REGULARLY and THOROUGHLY. We recommend checking every other day with a "knit comb", which is a finely toothed, plastic comb, available from the chemist.
Please note:- This isn't a girl only issue and it is no reflection on the cleanliness of a child's hair.
It does seem to be an issue for our youngest children more, as children tend to be more tactile with each other when they are younger, but all infant schools I have ever worked in, find the same problem throughout the school.
If a letter comes home to your child's class, this means we have been alerted to an incident in that class, so please don't assume it is just a standard letter - please take action and check that day.
We have enclosed a leaflet which offers advice to parents about how to tackle head lice should you find them. If anyone would like to discuss this matter further, the school nurse's phone number is 949 5054 and they can give more advice. Chemists will also give advice about new/effective products on the market.
Thank you for your support in this matter. The only way we can tackle this effectively is for EVERY PARENT to be vigilant by checking regularly and acting immediately.
Please come to a public meeting on the Twyford library issue:
Thursday 13th July
6-7 pm
St Mary's Church Hall, Twyford
There will be a couple of speakers and a chance for us to discuss the issue and raise it higher up the Council's priority list - a flyer is attached, if you could please please pass this on or photocopy round your friends/neighbours in Twyford, Charvil, Sonning, Hurst, Ruscombe and Wargrave to get a really good turnout from across the villages and local groups. Or why not print it out and put it in your home window to publicise the event - or if you are able to put up a copy on any noticeboards you have access to that would be so helpful..... Councillors are being invited to attend and speak if they wish - we'll see whether they take up the offer or not!
If you can't come, there will be a Twyford Centre Management Initiative meeting the following Monday which will also be discussing the issue, local decision makers should be attending - details to follow!
If you are able to come along, it would be nice if you could reply to me or community_speaks@hotmail.co.uk
Many thanks - see you there!
