Newsletter No. 37
Friday 23rd June 2006

Dear Parents, Carers and Governors,

What a busy, productive week we've had in school! I hope I don't miss anything out!!

Dedication of the Cross
It was lovely to see Mrs Forsyth back for the Dedication of the Cross, which she so kindly gave us when she retired. Rev. Simon led a beautiful service for us in the hall, then our School Council blessed the cross itself outside. Pop into the hall to see a copy of the photo and the dedication prayer.

Community Arts Project Celebration
We had so many people who came to celebrate the work that took place during the project, children, family and friends, local businesses as well as some of our local councillors. It is important to celebrate and give thanks for the work that everyone put in. There are now plans to have another project in the Autumn term - watch this space for details in the new term.

Marwell Zoo Trip Notes back please - Uniform for trip
Please return any forms as soon as possible, as we cannot take any child without their form.
After further discussions with the staff, I have now decided that I would like all children to wear SCHOOL UNIFORM on that day. As Marwell Zoo is quite a large site, and there may be more than one school party there, it is much easier to monitor and count the children when they are easily identifiable in our uniform. We have had several non-uniform days recently, so I don't feel too mean in changing my mind!! And, of course, we will hopefully have another sports clothes day soon if England go through!!!

Tuesday 4th July - Sports Relief Mile
We have set the date now for our Sports Relief Mile Run - it will be on Tuesday 4th July. Socks are still on sale in the school office costing £2 for the pair. We'll publish a timetable nearer the time if you'd like to come along and cheer your child on!

PTA Disco
This was a super event last Friday - many thanks to all the PTA for organising this fun event.

Twyford Advertiser
We're in again this week, showing Thabani, the African dancer who is now a regular visitor during our Arts Week programme.

New Company for School Dinner Meals - An Increase in price from September
In September our school meals will be cooked by a company called Edward and Ward. They come highly recommended. We are delighted that Mrs Potter will still be cooking for us and I look forward to the continuing improvement in school meals.
Following consultation with parents over prices and quality of food, there will be an increase in price to allow the company to buy quality products. Meals will now cots £1.60 per day. No other

Tesco Computer for Schools Vouchers
There are even more ways you can collect vouchers this year - recycle your used inkjet cartridges and old mobile phones and you can earn extra vouchers (10 vouchers for each inkjet, 15 vouchers for a non-working mobile and 40 vouchers for a working mobile). Please see Mrs Martin for more information.

Sainsbury Active Kids
We've collected a over 4,000 vouchers to assist in replenishing our PE equipment, so a big big thank you.

Secret Newsletter Item
Mrs Hagley's Leaving Assembly and Gift - Friday 21st July 10.15am - Please keep quiet!

On the very last day of term at 10.15am, we will be holding a special goodbye assembly for Mrs Hagley to mark her 20th year at Polehampton CE Infant School. The school is backing a local campaign to improve the library provision in this area. Please read the announcement below and act if you can ? Thank you.
Give our Community a 21st Century Library!

Would you support the redevelopment of our local library in the centre of Twyford as a new, vital community resource for us all - children, parents, young and older people alike in Twyford and neighbouring villages? Now is the time to raise your voice! Please join a local campaign to make this real by contacting your local Councillor. There is currently a vacant property (formerly JWGreens pub) which would make an ideal library and community venue on London Road, right in the middle of Twyford, rejuvenating the village and providing a much needed community hub for the north of the Wokingham district more generally. The site is vacant and for sale, but could be bought by another bathroom shop or estate agent at any time, so we need to put our views across now ? strongly and quickly.

All you need to do is email the Councillors who make the decisions, giving your name (and organisation if you represent one), saying you would support a new community library facility based in Twyford, complementing (NOT replacing!) other local facilities eg. Wargrave Library and perhaps saying why (it would provide disabled access, serve outlying communities with no library service, provide parking, space for local groups, internet access, increase range of reference sources for school projects to name a few reasons!) Please ask them to act quickly and decisively for our community! Here are the email addresses for all our local Councillors, please feel free to contact any (or all!) of the following:

Hurst (Cllr Annette Drake): annette.drake@wokingham.gov.uk
Wargrave, Ruscombe, Remenham (Cllr Frank Browne): frankb@wokingham.gov.uk
Wargrave, Ruscombe, Remenham (Cllr Christopher Schutz):
Christopher.schutz@wokingham.gov.uk
Sonning (Cllr David Ashman): david.ashman@wokingham.gov.uk
Charvil (Cllr Pamela Graddon): Pamela.graddon@wokingham.gov.uk
Twyford (Cllr Stephen Conway): drsrconway@aol.com

Please please do forward this onto any friends, neighbours, business, local, voluntary contacts in Twyford or our locality and if you could kindly copy in our campaign hotmail account that would be great!

Our address for information/copying is: Community_speaks@hotmail.co.uk We would be keen to know what replies you get, and if you would be interested in attending a community meeting to help, please email us your contact details.

We can make a difference to our community!
