Friday 3rd March 2006
Dear Parents, Carers and Governors,
What a week it's been in school! As you will know we've had a very busy time indeed!!!
World Book Day - Dressing up as book characters!
Well, didn't we all look funny on Thursday! A huge thank you to the children, parents and staff for making such an effort.
Volunteer's Day
Many thanks to our hard-working volunteers last Saturday. We now have a new ceiling in the White House, plus shelves and lots of space. The courtyard and pond area had a good tidy and the wild area has had its growing area extended. Many thanks to Lorraine and Paul Johnson, Mark and Sarah Pollard, Viv and Jim Young and Ken Float, Emma's granddad, Hazel Keelan, Rachael Blain, Jayne Millar and Andy Felton.
A big Thanks to our teaching assistant Mrs Clark, for organising the gardening crew!
Twyford Advertiser
We've made a couple of appearances recently in the local press - last week Jackie Daniels, Twyford's Community Police Officer visited us and had her photo taken with Ellie Mundy.
This week, our visit from the High Sheriff of Berkshire makes for very good reading as does our Pancake tossing event.
Sponsored Pancake Toss
Thanks to the PTA for organising this fabulous event. The children really enjoyed themselves and it looks like we've raised a lot of money. The fun activity really helped children to consolidate what they had been learning about the significance of Shrove Tuesday.
Drumming Day
The whole school were bouncing and jigging on Monday when we had Arissa, Doudou and Buka, the African drummers, in school. First they gave us a performance introducing us to the instruments, their names and what sounds they made. Then each class had a workshop, where every child got their own drum to use. We are very lucky as we have the drums in school for a little while now so we can do some more work with them - very exciting and quite noisy!
School Council
The pupils have voted and our first school council has been elected. There is a girl and boy from each class. These children will be awarded their badges next week and attend their first meeting - watch this space for further announcements. The school councillors are:-
Blue - Zoe Bush and Frank Wrigley
Orange - Sam McLean and Catriona Blain
Green - Joe Bannister and Abbie Cooper
Yellow - Charlotte Dodd and George Thomas
Purple - Kate Chalmers and Will Bryant
Buddy Bus Stop
Thanks this week to Lauren and Daniel Sinfield from Purple class and Bernie and James Richards from Yellow.
Closing Date for School Admissions 06/07 - 10th March
If you have any children moving to the juniors or starting with us next year, don't forget, next FRIDAY 10TH MARCH IS THE CLOSING DATE!!!!! Make sure your form is with the admissions department at Shute End, not here at school or your application will be considered after all the forms received on time.
