Newsletter No. 8
Friday 23rd October 2009

Dear Parents, Carers and Governors,

Non-uniform day
Thank you for all your donations which will enable us to buy additional maths games for the children.

Green class assembly
Well done to Green class who made a lovely assembly for us this week. It was all about “What I’m good at and everyone is good at something”, which is a perfect message for school life.

Tea with the Mayor
Miss Perkins, Miss Wilberforce, 5 year three children (who undertook a special project with us last year) and I had tea with the Mayor of Wokingham this week to celebrate our Learning Platform commendation from last academic year.  We were one of three Wokingham schools to triumph in the UniServity national Learning Platform Awards for Excellence, beating hundreds of entries from around the world!  UniServity said of our school:  ‘Differentiating activities to support special educational needs children and gifted and able children, the school has continued to move forward, developing new ideas and creative ways to keep their learning at the forefront of excellence.”
Do take a look at our Gallery section of our Learning Platform to see a photo of the occasion. http://www.school-portal.co.uk/GroupHomepage.asp?GroupId=178484

Children coming into school by themselves
It’s wonderful that so many children are now coming in to school by themselves in the mornings. I know even a few Blue Class children are managing this too. Let’s see if even more of us can give this a go after half term.

Indian dancing
The whole school was jumping and dancing on Tuesday, as we enjoyed an Indian Dance lesson from Adeela. Take a look at the Blue Class page on the Learning Platform, where there is a video and some photos of the day – Bollywood, here we come!

Help needed!
Is there anyone who can spare a little time (1 hour a week or whenever fits in) to help us keep our library organised. If you can please see Mrs Smith.

School menu change
We will be serving Monday’s menu (sausages) instead of Tuesday’s menu when the children return to school after the half term on Tuesday 3rd November.

Envelopes for Christmas Dinner will be sent out after the half term.  Please note that the free school meal voucher issued last week to all reception children cannot be used for this.

Thank You Juniors!
We had some special visitors for our assembly on Monday morning.  Miss Hester and some children from the Junior's School Council came to talk to us about healthy packed lunches.  They had put a lot of thought into the assembly and made it fun for our children whilst also getting across some really important messages about healthy eating.  Packed lunches is something that both schools will be thinking about more throughout the year.
