Newsletter No. 30
Friday 9nd May 2008

Dear Parents, Carers and Governors,

Second hand clothes sale – Thursday 15th May from 3.00pm in the play ground
We are rather awash with second hand uniform at the moment! These are usually good quality items that parents have donated to the school after their child has left.
Julie Wallace will hold a sale on Thursday 15th May from 3.00pm in the play ground. A small donations to school fund would be appreciated!

Name Labels

Please can you make sure that all your child’s/children’s uniform is clearly named, especially coats, jumpers, cardigans and sunhats as these are being left on the playing field at lunchtime and are difficult to return if not labelled – thank you.

Christian Aid Week
We have decided to support Christian Aid’s appeal to raise money to support the victims of the cyclone in Burma. Whilst there have been many reports of aid not getting through, Christian Aid’s website reads.
“Christian Aid has been working in Burma for over 20 years and has developed close relationships with our partners all of which have experience of working in the affected areas. Christian Aid and our partners are also able to increase current activities quite significantly.”
So you can either donate directly through their website or drop a donation into school and we will make one donation from the school.

Christian Aid also have a children’s site now called Global Gang, so do take a look there for more information.

A Service of Prayer in School

As part of the local churches '21 Days of Prayer in the Parish' we will be holding a 15 minute Service of Prayer in the staff room on Thursday morning for the next two weeks. It is open to everyone and will give us the chance to pray for the school and the life of the village. Please do come and join us. There will also be prayers every day until June 1st at 12.30pm at Jubilee Corner, and 7.30pm at St James Ruscombe to which you are very welcome.
Every blessing. Revd Simon

PTA News
Just a reminder that the last, last chance for placing your Fun Mats order will be 9.00am Monday morning.
We do have one un-named order (placed on office window) that was handed into the office on Tuesday morning, the Mum concerned paid cash (£6.20) and did not have an envelope to put her order in so I gave her one.  Unfortunately neither myself or Mrs Dobson can remember who this was!  If this was you please can you come into the office first thing Monday morning so that we can process your order.

You should have now received the new Yellow Moon Catalogue, please support if possible.

Today’s Craft Meeting was  postponed due to lots of the children being off sick – a new date will be arranged asap.

Is anyone available to help out with Face Painting at the Twyford Donkey Derby on Sunday 1st June for an hour?  Any contributions earned during this time will be donated by the organizers to the PTA, so please help out if you can.
If you are able to help please see Kathy Peck outside of Green Class or email her at kathy@pecksplace.com - thank you

Annual Academic Report
Today we will be sending home our annual school reports for every child (except Red class – your child’s report will be written towards the end of term).
I have really enjoyed reading these reports and I’d like to thank the teachers for all the time they spend thinking about each child. We find it very helpful to write these reports before the end of term, so we all have time to work with the children on their areas for improvement before the summer holidays.

Our next parents’ evening is an Open Evening on Monday 7th July. If you’d like to discuss anything you read in your child’s report before then, please do speak to you child’s teacher.
Having read the reports, if you or your child would like to make any comments, please use the comments form that will come home in the envelope. We would like to record your thoughts, so these comments sheets will then be filed with the reports.

Whilst we endeavour to make them easy to read, we do occasionally use “school speak” so I have written some brief explanations for you to refer to if necessary. Please click here to visit our 'school speak' explanation page.

I realise that several start dates for the skate park have been announced and as yet no work has started!
We have now been told that work should start on 12th May (Monday next week).
However in the interests of safety,  parents and children who walk through the park to and from school will need pay special attention as there may be vehicles moving and digging equipment operating.
