Newsletter No. 29
Friday 2nd May 2008

Dear Parents, Carers and Governors,

The Fitness Trail
This has been a very exciting week, with all sorts of wonderful machinery on site. The children have been fascinated to see it change before their very eyes! Thanks for your extra vigilance and please continue to keep your eyes on your little ones whilst the builders are with us.
We should be completed next week at some point – the dreadful weather has caused some delays, but we will be ready to play very soon. When we’re finished, we will have an opening ceremony with the children first thing that morning – I won’t be able to tell you until it’s finally signed off as completed, but do feel free to stay and join in with us to celebrate. We will timetable additional play times for the children so they all get a turn as soon as possible (and for teachers too – and parents??).
Before and after school – as ever, any play on the equipment must be carefully supervised by parents. I’m sure the children will be keen to play, so I ask you to take care particularly at first when it’s so new and exciting.

Red Class Parents Meeting
It was lovely to see so many parents of our new children at our meeting this week. Do pop in if you have any further questions. We look forward to your children staying for lunch next week.

Correct Articulation of Letter Sounds
As we discussed at our Red Class parents meeting, it is really important that the children learn to articulate the letter sounds correctly. It not only helps them to read unfamiliar words, but also helps them to sound out when trying to spell.
If you would like to listen to the correct articulation of letter sounds (phonemes) go to the following link. We’ve also put this on the “Links” section on our website so it’s always available and easy to find.

BBC Bite size
We’ve been surfing and found that we really like the BBC website for practising numeracy and literacy skills. This is particularly good for year two children. Take a look at the link below for great activities and games for your child to have fun while learning.

New Leaflet Holder
Mrs Dobson had an early Christmas present last week – a new leaflet holder just outside her office!!  In it, you will find all the current information about school life, such as newsletters, uniform request forms and menus for school dinners. So on a busy morning for the office, do take a look there for what you might need, as it might save you some time.

Cash For Schools Tokens - Twyford Advertiser
Cash for Schools started in yesterday’s Twyford Advertiser. £10,000 will be distributed between all participating schools that collect a minimum of two tokens per pupil, which means we need to collect at least 318 tokens. There is a collecting box in the office. Please see posters at either end of the school for more details.

Twyford Advertiser – Farm visit article
There is a lovely article in this week’s paper about the farm visit. There are also photos on the Class Pages (follow links from the Home Page) so do take a look.

Tuesday’s Lunch Menu
Please note that due to the Bank Holiday there is a change to Tuesday’s menu, it will now be Mondays menu instead (pizza).  Hope this doesn’t cause too much confusion!

PTA News!
We are off to a great start with our new term as you can see from the work on the new play equipment! Here are some other pieces of PTA news:

1. Your children have been working on their Fathers Day project with us this week, and they look fantastic! You should have received an order form today in your child’s book bag, and we hope many of you will take this opportunity to help us raise money as well as giving Dad’s a very unique gift. Please return the forms to school by Friday 9th May.

2. We have a PTA Meeting which everyone is welcome to attend next Tuesday (6th May) at 8.00pm in the school hall. We do hope lots of you will come along as we are always keen to hear new ideas.

3.  On Friday 9th May we have a Craft morning at Ali Sinfield’s house at 9.30am, with coffee and biscuits provided. The idea of this morning is for people to bring along ideas of children’s crafts or activities that we could make into craft kits and sell at the summer fair, with a view to boredom busting during the summer holidays! We envisage that those who can, may meet for a couple of subsequent sessions over the next couple of months to help put together these kits. Anyone who would be interested in joining us please see Ali outside Green class.

4.   Our next disco is on Friday 16th May and you should have received the letter for this in your child’s book bag today. Please read it carefully as we are running two disco sessions on the same evening and you will need to choose which one your child attends.
