Newsletter No. 27
Friday 4th April 2008

Dear Parents, Carers and Governors,

Blue Class Assembly
Well done to our youngest children for their excellent assembly all about Elmer. Take a look at the Blue Class Web-Page for some photos.

Wokingham Church School Service
Last night was the annual Wokingham Church Schools Service. This was held in St. Paul’s Church in Wokingham and was led by Bishop Alan of Buckingham.  He talked about a project which the Oxford Diocese is leading with a parish in the Nandyal province in India. It was an uplifting service, focussing on learning from and serving others. Our Yr2 school councillors attended this service to represent the school and will feedback to the rest of the school after the holidays, so thanks to Tomas, Imogen, Jamie and Charlotte and their families for attending. Have a look on our Gallery Page for a photo of the children in the service.

The Next School Development Plan - Parent Consultation Feedback

Additional after school clubs

Music lessons – thanks to all those who’ve expressed an interest in their child having some kind of music lesson through school. We’re looking into it and will let you know as soon as possible.
Judo Club – we are delighted to be able to offer judo lessons again. These sessions will be after school on a Friday.
Tennis – thanks for your feedback about this club, we have enough interest for this club to go ahead.  This will commence the second week of term on Thursday 1st May at 8.00am, and will run for 10 weeks.  Further details will be sent out to those children interested at the beginning of term.

Students in School
We are very lucky to have good links with our local colleges and universities, giving our school opportunities to have additional adults working with the children.  Students who are currently have school are:
• Blue and Red Class – Laura Harris from Berkshire College of Agriculture with us on Thursdays and Fridays until June
• Green Class –  Frances Picot from Reading University here for the first four weeks after the holiday
• Orange Class – Jessica Tidman from Reading University here for the first four weeks after the holiday

Pupil consultation – we’ve also been asking the children’s opinions of what they like and want to improve about school. Often their suggestions are class based, so might not appear on a whole school plan, though they are excellent ideas. Orange Class have actually used their learning platform Class Page for this, so it’s there for all to see.

Primary Admissions
All parents who applied for a school place for their child for next academic year (either to start here or at the Junior School) should have received notification by today. If you haven’t heard, do call Primary Admissions on any of the following numbers and they will be able to deal with your query.  0118 974 6245/6143/6113

A Report About the visit from the School Nurse
Head lice have sharp claws that hold onto your hair.  They live for 3-5 days, and they have a mouth that bites your head and sucks your blood.  They also make you itch.  They are very good runners, but they cannot jump.  Sometimes you get eggs that nits come out off.  If you sit next to someone really close you get nits, one of you might have nits.  If you put conditioner in your hair the nits will not be able to hold onto your hair.  First you put conditioner on your hair and then get a comb and start combing.  Sometimes nits can get used to your shampoo, so it does not make any difference.  You must wash your hair at least once a week.
