Newsletter No. 24
Friday 14th March 2008

Dear Parents, Carers and Governors,

Parent and Governor Consultation on the next School Improvement Plan
Please find attached below a Word Document with a summary of our findings from last week’s meeting. A few more ideas have surfaced, including ideas about music lessons. I’d like to find about if there would be an interest in this from more parents. I’ve done some initial research, but I really need to know more details before we can proceed. Could you complete and return the tick list at the bottom of this newsletter to indicate your interest and we’ll take it from there – thanks.

Sports Relief Mile
Despite the wind and the rain this week, we have all managed to run our sport relief miles!! Well done to all the girls and boys (big and small!) who completed 11 laps of the field. We’ve sold nearly all our socks and made over £100 for Sports Relief.

Orange Class Assembly
What a fantastic assembly this week all about Under the Sea! Your great dances, songs, poems and art week made it a real treat – thank you!

Easter Celebration - Easter Bonnets and Baskets Parade
We’re looking forward to our Easter Bonnet and Basket parade as part of our Easter Celebration on Thursday 20th March at 9.15am. These are things for the children to make at home and bring in on the day. They can make both or one item, depending how keen they are!
If you are able to accompany us down to the church on Wednesday, please see your child’s class teacher.

Blue Class in the mornings
As we near the end of the Spring term, we’d like our older blue class children to come into class by themselves in the mornings. In fact, some children are managing this already. Some of them may even be able to come into school on their own. This next stage of independence is a good for them as they are able to sort out their possessions as they are know their way around the school and their classroom. Some of our January starters might feel able to say goodbye at the door now too. We will have a lot of new children after the Spring break and we want to give them the space that they’ll need. So it’s good all round if we can all move onto the next stage of school life.

Blue class – volunteers needed to walk to Church on Wednesday
We need volunteers to walk with the children to church on Wednesday morning, if you are able to help please can you see Mrs Smitheyman , Mrs Winthrop or Mrs Clark – thank you. Volunteers may also still be needed for other classes, so if you are able to accompany us down to the church on Wednesday, please see your child’s class teacher.

Hot Cross Buns?
Along with today’s newsletter, each child will bring a small fold-out leaflet about Easter from the Oxford Diocese. It reminds us why we eat hot cross buns and gives a link to a web-site www.easteringredients.org which contains lots of information, recipes and Easter activities.

School Council News
School Council met last week.  One of the really important things we discussed was bullying.  The children reviewed the ‘Bullying Charter’ written by last year’s School Council.  They decided that they still agreed with what it says and that it didn’t need to be re-written.   The children planned and presented an assembly to the whole school about bullying, what it means and what we can do to prevent it.  A copy of the ‘Bullying Charter’ can be found on our website  www.happyhourspreschool.ik.com Registered Charity No. 293559

Quiz Night
We are really looking forward to a good crowd at the quiz night tonight – don’t forget to bring nibbles and drinks with you; we will provide the fish ‘n’ chips (or alternative if you requested it!) And remember – it’s a fun evening, where ultimately we just aim to beat the teachers!

• We do hope you will be able to sell some raffle tickets over the coming fortnight. The letter should have come home on Wednesday, but please ask if you need more information or tickets
• School link catalogues also came home recently. The last orders from the last catalogue raised £20.10 in book vouchers for the school, so many thanks. Orders from this catalogue are due in to the school office by Tuesday 18th March.
•  We are getting some fantastic Easter Egg decorated pictures back in school and its not too late to enter! We will be judging the pictures next Tuesday (18th March), and there is an Easter Egg prize for the winner in each year group, so please bring any more entries in by then.
•  Finally , last call for any outstanding money from the sponsored pancake toss please…..
